During Holy Week, church bells and hymns can be heard in the center and on the outskirts of Athens. Intoxicating aromas of traditional Easter foods emanate from local bakeries and homes and fill the spring air. In 2012, Orthodox Easter is on 15th April, in the middle of the spring!
First of all, did you know that there are over 250 churches in Istanbul and more than 110 are still active?
At any time of the year Spain is a great destination for lovers of sun, sea and culture, but Easter in Seville is something very special indeed.
EASTER in ITALY - This year Easter falls on April 8, a perfect time for some short out-of-town trips since during that period the summer comes in every part of Italy and the temperatures begin to drop significantly.
Easter egg hunts
For a fantastic Easter egg hunt The Chateau Vaux Le Vicomte is an ideal spot for the whole family. Located just outside Paris, it holds Easter egg hunts throughout Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, and also offers free workshops in chocolate making, origami, face painting and more. Another option is Paris’ Galeries Lafayette’s Big Easter Hunt where your little Easter bunnies have one hour to scour the store for every last shiny wrapped egg and delicious chocolate bean before the Grande Chase aux Oeufs is over.
From the 11th to 21st of February, and with a colourful preview on February 4th and 5th, we are going to celebrate and remember Venice as the ancient capital of modern theater - with over 25 active theaters throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Furthermore we are going to recall the sense of disguising: the discovery of a new “character” of our personality through the wearing of a costume. We want the festival to turn into a major event of performing arts, in which each visitor of the city becomes a protagonist of this famous Festival that is a fundamental part of our country’s cultural heritage.
Hundreds of Klimt works will go on display in Vienna
A series of special events will take place in Vienna this year to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the artist Gustav Klimt, one of the city’s most famous sons.
2012 will be the year of so many celebrations in the UK and the one I’m enjoying already is the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens. The bicentenary of his birth (7 February 1812) is being celebrated across the world throughout the year so I thought I’d highlight some ideas for the places Dickens knew so well: London and Kent.

Not only because of its name, this small and magical market in Berlin Prenslauerberg is atypical. The general atmosphere characterized by the old stone buildings inside the cultural brewery, a land marked monument, is magical.
Christmas in Berlin
…how we celebrate xmas in Germany. I have to give a timeline. It starts in October, when xmas sweets start to appear in the larger supermarkets, then we have the 4 advents, Sankt Nikolaus on the 6th Dec and xmas eve on the 24th Dec and the two following xmas bank holidays.
The country goes into overdrive throughout December, incorporating Christmas markets, decorations, and events throughout the month, including the Santa Claus Race in Rotterdam, the Pink Christmas gay festival in Amsterdam, and the lighting of Christmas lights in city squares.
